CO Detection - Commercial vs. Residential Applications

Pursuant to the OSH Act, employers must comply with safety and health standards and regulations issued and enforced by either OSHA or by an OSHA-approved State Plan.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) for carbon monoxide in the workplace is 50 ppm over an eight hour Time Weighted Average (TWA).

Carbon monoxide alarms listed to the UL 2034 residential standard are not required to activate an alarm until 70 ppm, are intended for use in ordinary indoor locations of family living units, and should not be installed in the workplace.

Review this table for a complete listing of commercial and residential carbon monoxide safety regulations.
